Dedication to Kristijonas Donelaitis

About the artwork
Authored by Gintaras Karosas and dedicated to Kristijonas Donelaitis, the piece of work shows an imaginary table, its contents consisting of a still life of human and natural objects that the poet thought dear. Elements of the environment of Kristijonas Donelaitis and his poem Metai (The Year) are combined to make one whole, while the other side of the round ‘table’ is left bare, inviting us to have a seat and spend some time with the poet’s persona – estranged over centuries, yet still close and relevant to us. The silhouette of the sequence of the objects that make the still life resembles the digits of the poet’s anniversary.

The laconic and unadorned language of plastic expression of the symbols of this work of art brings the viewer closer to the persona of this talented poet with its tenderness towards nature and affinity towards ordinary people.
